Development of parents' attitude scale regarding technology and use of technology in classes and tablet PC application]

Abstract

Ä°smail KENAR

In this study, it was aimed to develop a Likert-type valid and reliable attitude scale to measure the attitudes of parents of primary school 4th and 5th grade students towards technology and use of technology in lessons and to examine the attitudes of parents of students towards tablet PC use in primary schools within the scope of this scale. During the scale development phase, existing scales were examined, expert opinions were consulted, and a draft scale was created by determining the attitude items. The draft scale was applied to 134 parents of students in 4th and 5th grade in U?ak City Center, Sesli and Mehmetçik primary schools, and validity and reliability studies were carried out. Content validity of the scale was carried out by obtaining expert opinions, and construct validity was carried out by factor analysis. As a result of the exploratory factor analysis, the scale included a total of 25 items, 14 positive and 11 negative, explaining 55.85% of the total variance. Cronbach's Alpha reliability coefficient of the scale is .92. This scale was then applied to a total of 54 parents of students, 27 of which were experimental and 27 control groups, in the primary school of the city of U?ak, where tablet PCs were distributed. As a result of the Wilcoxon signed ranks test, a positive and significant increase was found in the attitudes of the parents of the experimental group students whose children were taught with the tablet PC compared to the parents of the control group students whose children were not taught with the tablet PC, towards technology and the use of technology in lessons.
