Dialogue at School: The Role of the School Administration

Abstract

The aim of this study is to reveal the role of school management in creating and developing the dialogue process in school, based on the opinions of school administrators working in official secondary education institutions. The study group of the study consisted of 12 school administrators working in 3 public secondary schools affiliated to the Ministry of National Education in the 2011-2012 academic year in the province of Çorlu in Tekirda?. Research data were collected using face to face interview technique, using a semi-structured interview form. The data obtained in the study were analyzed by content analysis technique. The findings obtained from this research can be summarized as follows; School administrators participating in the research believe that dialogue is important and necessary in the school and they acknowledge that they have deficiencies in this regard. Administrators think that dialogue at school will contribute many to education. Administrators also stated that there are dialogue problems in the school and the society, and that school administrators, teachers, parents and students have some important duties in order to solve these problems and improve the dialogue process.
