Educational Status and Manpower Planning of Tourism Sector Employment

Abstract

Yalın KILIÇ [1]

Since the tourism sector is a labor-intensive sector, it presents an employment-friendly structure. For this reason, it has a great role in increasing employment and solving the unemployment problem. However, the service quality in the sector also presents a directly proportional relationship with the employment quality. The quality of employment also depends on his educational background. In this study, the educational status of those working in the tourism sector is analyzed. The analysis was made based on the data of the Household Labor Force Survey of 2011 applied by TURKSTAT. When the data of the Household Labor Force Survey of 2011 is evaluated, it is seen that the education level of those working in the tourism sector is below the national average. However, this situation differs in terms of sub-sectors. It is thought that the results of the study will make an important contribution to the manpower planning studies, which are of great importance in the sector. At the same time, this study can be a resource that can be used in the planning of the educational institutions responsible for training the human resources of the sector and in the formulation of action plans by the units responsible for developing policies regarding the sector.
