Examination of middle school students' attitudes towards science and technology lesson with CHAID analysis

The main purpose of this study is to determine the attitudes of middle school students towards the Science and Technology course and to examine the variables that affect the attitude with the CHAID Analysis method. A total of 605 secondary school students studying at secondary schools affiliated to Mu? Provincial Directorate of National Education participated in the study in the 2011-2012 academic year. The "Science Attitude Scale" developed by Barmby, Kind and Jones (2005) and adapted into Turkish by Kaya and Böyük (2011) was applied to determine the attitudes of the students participating in the study towards Science and Technology course. As a result of the analysis, it was determined that the students generally have a moderate positive attitude towards the Science and Technology course. In addition, the variables that have the most important effect on the students 'attitudes towards the Science and Technology course are, respectively, the students' liking of the Science and Technology lesson, the state of establishing a relationship between what they learn in Science and Technology lesson and the events they encounter in daily life, and the types of games they prefer most on the computer. According to these results, the family and school administration, especially teachers, should seek ways to make students like Science and Technology lessons. During the education and training process, more assignments and projects should be included in which students can relate to the subjects they learn in the course in daily life. Also,
