Global citizenship in social studies course according to classroom teacher candidates

In today's world where information and communication technologies are developing rapidly, the skills expected from students are changing. One of the lessons in which these skills are taught is the Social Studies Course. From past to present, Social Studies Course tries to gain students citizenship skills. However, with the globalizing world, it has become very important for students to have global knowledge, skills and value. In this context, the aim of the study is to reveal the opinions of classroom teacher candidates regarding global citizenship education in Social Studies Lesson. The research is a descriptive study based on qualitative data. The participants of the study consist of 78 teacher candidates studying in Anadolu University Faculty of Education Classroom Teaching Program in the fourth and fourth grade. Research data were collected using the structured interview form developed by the researchers. Descriptive analysis technique was used in analyzing the collected qualitative data. According to the analysis results of the data collected in the study, the opinions of classroom teacher candidates about global citizenship were collected under three themes: the conceptual dimension of citizenship, the individual dimension and the countries dimension. When the opinions of the teacher candidates about the characteristics that a global citizen should have, it was determined that they discussed the characteristics that a global citizen should have in three dimensions: "knowledge and understanding, skill, value and attitude". Most of the teacher candidates think that the Social Studies course contributes to global citizenship education.
