Multiple choice questions based on making sense from paragraphs in measuring reading comprehension

The purpose of this study is to determine to what extent the multiple-choice questions based on making sense from the paragraph fulfill the aims of education in general and reading instruction in particular, and to what extent the results of these tests are valid. The data of the research in the scanning model were collected by focus group discussion technique. Qualitative research techniques were used in data collection and analysis. Semi-structured interview form was used in focus group discussions. In the research, it was worked with two different working groups. The first group consists of a total of 18 teachers whose areas of specialization are Teaching Turkish; The second group consists of 10 students attending the last year of high school and preparing for the university entrance exam. As a result of the research, multiple choice questions based on making sense from the paragraph, it can be answered without fully understanding the paragraph; It has been determined that these questions are not in line with the principles and objectives of teaching Turkish and that the primary purpose of the students is to answer these questions without understanding the paragraph.
