Abstract

Senar ALKIN [1] , Nihan DEMİRKASIMOĞLU [2]

Discussion activity is central to the development of democracy, intellectual and social life. In this context, it is important for students to gain discussion skills in order to become participatory citizens who can discuss social, political and economic issues (Harwood & Hahn, 1990; Graff, 2003). According to Ye?il (2004), students can be effective debaters; Knowing the meaning of the discussion and how it should be, develop a positive attitude towards discussion and learn by observing and applying these skills in educational environments. Rowland (1995) suggests that asking critical questions is important in developing students' academic discussion skills.
