Organizational commitment in educational institutions: A research on vocational schools

The aim of this study is to measure the organizational commitment levels of faculty members and administrators working in vocational schools; to determine whether this varies according to gender, age, educational background, title and seniority. In the light of the findings, suggestions were presented to decision makers and managers of educational institutions to increase the organizational commitment of employees. The study group of the research conducted with the screening model consists of 62 lecturers working in five vocational schools affiliated to Akdeniz University in the 2012-2013 academic year. The data were collected using the Organizational Commitment Scale developed by Allen and Meyer (1990) and adapted into Turkish by Kaya and Selçuk (2007). Descriptive statistics, Mann Whitney U Test and regression analysis were used in data analysis. According to the findings obtained, Participants showed the highest participation in emotional commitment, normative commitment and continuation commitment, respectively. Participants' views do not differ depending on gender and whether or not they have an administrative role.
