Parent interest and the level of prediction of primary school students in placement exams (SBS)

The main purpose of this study is to determine the level of interest shown by parents of primary school 8th grade students to the academic life of their children and the predictive level of the students' scores in the Placement Exam (SBS) in the previous years (6th and 7th Grade). In order to achieve this basic goal, the parents' level of interest; It was tried to determine whether it differentiates according to the parents' age, working status, job, education level and monthly income level and whether they predict SBS scores. The study group consists of 143 parents of students enrolled in elementary schools in Salihli district of Manisa province and studying in the 2011-2012 academic year, who were selected by simple random sampling technique. As a data collection tool, The 5-point Likert type measuring tool developed by the researchers and consisting of 48 items was used. In the analysis of the data, t-test, F test, Kruskal Wallis H test, regression analysis were used. As a result of the research, it was concluded that the parents' level of interest did not predict the academic success of their students. In addition, the parents' level of interest; It has been determined that it does not differ according to the age of the parents, whether they work or not, their job, education level and monthly income level.
