The relationship between teacher candidates' attitudes towards the teaching profession and their motivation to teach

The aim of this study is to determine the relationship between teacher candidates' attitudes towards the teaching profession and their teaching motivation. Relational scanning model was used in the study. The research was carried out on students studying at Atatürk University Kaz?m Karabekir Faculty of Education in the 2012-2013 academic year. The sample of the study consists of 294 students determined by the simple random sampling technique. Research data were collected by Teaching Motivation Scale and Attitude Scale towards Teaching Profession. Based on the purpose of the study, arithmetic mean, standard deviation, Pearson product-moments correlation analysis and multiple regression analysis methods were applied. According to the results obtained in the study, There is a positive, moderate and significant relationship between teacher candidates' teaching motivation and their attitudes towards the teaching profession. On the other hand, pre-service teachers 'attitude towards the teaching profession is a meaningful predictor of teacher candidates' teaching motivations, intrinsic and extrinsic motivations.
