The situation in primary school freshmen in the first year of the 4 + 4 + 4 system change: Problems and needs (Erzincan example)

In this study, teachers' opinions about the problems experienced in the first grade of primary school with the 4 + 4 + 4 system changes were investigated. The universe of the research in the screening model consists of teachers working in the province of Erzincan in the 2012-2013 academic year at the primary school level. While developing the data collection tool used in the study, firstly, the observations and experiences of the teachers during a term were determined by using the focus group interview and open-ended questions and questionnaires. Subsequently, a questionnaire covering the demographic information of teachers, their in-service training needs and problems was created by the researchers in the light of the relevant literature and expert opinions, and was applied to 149 teachers working in Erzincan city center and villages in the spring term. Descriptive statistics were used in the analysis of the data. As a result of the study, it was understood that classroom teachers had problems in the teaching process with 60-66 month-old students and they needed alternative methods and material designs specific to this age group. In addition, students' difficulties in classroom and school rules, perception, and ability to work during the lesson are among the important problems faced by classroom teachers. The needs of classroom teachers for theoretical and practical training to overcome these difficulties have been seen with the research. it was understood that they needed material designs. In addition, students' difficulties in classroom and school rules, perception, and ability to work during the lesson are among the important problems faced by classroom teachers. The needs of classroom teachers for theoretical and practical training to overcome these difficulties have been seen with the research. it was understood that they needed material designs. In addition, students' difficulties in classroom and school rules, perception, and ability to work during the lesson are among the important problems faced by classroom teachers. The needs of classroom teachers for theoretical and practical training to overcome these difficulties have been seen with the research.
